egend has it that Die Heimat was the original stagecoach stop for the colonies. As early as 1858, it was used as an inn for travelers. From 1906 to 1932, Die Heimat operated solely as a communal kitchen. In 1962, Die Heimat was renovated to accommodate travelers once again.

Front DeskWe are located in the village of Homestead, one of the original seven villages of the Amana Colonies—the number one tourist destination in the state of Iowa. Homestead offers restaurants, shops, Amana church museum, and the proximity of the Nature Trail for your pleasure during your stay with us.

Die Heimat is much the same as it has always been. Our many repeat guests always look for the Grandfather clock in the lobby, and enjoy the Amana walnut and cherry furniture and the rooms decorated in the simple, Amana style. Die Heimat is very much in keeping with the Amana traditions, such as "Amana-blue" walls and our Amana glider swing in the yard for your enjoyment.

Your hosts, Warren and Jacki Lock, welcome you with their combination of Australian and Midwestern hospitality.
